Following SSU investigation, FSB spotter convicted for preparing russian air strikes on Sumy region

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an FSB agent detained by the SSU in June 2024 in Sumy region has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation established that the enemy agent guided russian missile, artillery, and drone strikes on border areas of the region.

The tasks of russia’s federal security service were carried out by a 60-year-old local woman. The russian service recruited her through her relatives living in the aggressor state.

On her handler’s instructions, she began collecting coordinates for a new series of attacks on the north-eastern region of Ukraine. The targets included the locations of the Defence Forces, enterprises of the military industrial complex, and critical life-support infrastructure.

To gather intelligence, the spotter travelled around the area by public transport or tried to elicit information from her acquaintances.

She was then instructed by her handler to form her own network of informants from among local residents.

The SSU Counterintelligence caught the agent in action while she was conducting reconnaissance near a military installation. A smartphone, which she used to record targets and report to the FSB, was seized from the detainee.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Sumy Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
