Following SSU investigation, russian guard general who commanded dispersal of protests during early occupation of Kherson convicted in absentia
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, russian colonel general Vladimir Spiridonov, commander of the Ural district of the russian guard, has been sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, Spiridonov participated in the capture of Kherson region. At that time, he headed a combined grouping consisting of four tactical groups, a special forces detachment, and an operational unit of the russian guard.
After Kherson’s occupation, Spiridonov began organizing mass repressions against members of the resistance movement in the region.
It has been documented that the general commanded the actions of his subordinates, who, on his orders, carried out violent dispersals of peaceful protests in the city center.
The investigation established that armed russian servicemen kidnapped participants in protest rallies and took them to prisons.
In the jails, the victims were subjected to numerous forms of torture, which the enemy used to try to break their resistance to the kremlin regime.
Before the liberation of the right bank of Kherson region, Spiridonov fled to russia, where he received a ’promotion’ for his war crimes.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU investigators, the court found the accused guilty under Articles 28.2 and 437.2 the CCU (crimes of aggression, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
Efforts to find and bring the ruscist to justice for crimes against our state are underway.
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Kherson Office under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
