Following SSU’s investigation, court passes first sentence for organizing sham referendum in Ukraine’s south

The SSU has collected comprehensive evidence on an organizer of russia’s pseudo-referendum in Beryslav district, Kherson region.

The offender is a former member of a local ‘election commission’ established by the aggressor during the temporary occupation of this area.

After Beryslav district was liberated, the SSU detained the collaborator in the course of stabilization efforts in October last year.

Given the woman’s cooperation with the investigation, court sentenced her to 5 years in prison with a 10-year ban on holding public office and engaging in activities related to electoral process.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a resident of Novooleksandrivka village, Beryslav district, who supported russian invaders when the full-scale invasion began.

After the settlement was captured by occupiers, she voluntarily joined the local occupation administration.

There, the woman carried out moscow’s task to organize and conduct an illegal referendum in the temporarily occupied part of southern Ukraine.

To do this, the collaborator compiled ‘voter registers’ for the district, urged people to come to the ‘polling stations’ and ‘vote’ in favour of the aggressor state. She personally visited private households and demanded that people put the necessary ‘mark in the ballot’.

Following the SSU’s investigation, court found the accused guilty under the Articles 28.2 and 111-1.5 of the CCU (collaboration).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kherson region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
