Orest Berezovsky, so-called UOC-MP metropolitan Onufriy, stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship

Based on the materials of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ukrainian citizenship of Orest Berezovsky, better known as Onufriy, a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of moscow patriarchate, has been revoked. The decree was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

The SSU established that Berezovsky (Onufriy) had voluntarily obtained russian citizenship in 2002. He did not inform the authorities of Ukraine about this and continued to enjoy the status of a citizen of our state.

According to information available to the SSU, Berezovsky (Onufriy) maintains ties with the moscow patriarchate and has deliberately opposed the canonical independence of the Ukrainian Church from moscow patriarchate, whose representatives openly support russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Despite the full-scale invasion, Berezovsky (Onufriy) continues to support the policy of the russian orthodox church and its leadership, in particular patriarch Kirill (Gundyayev).

Earlier, Gundyayev blessed the armed aggression of russian troops and is pursuing a propaganda policy of justification and incitement to genocide against the Ukrainian people. By supporting russia’s aggressive policy, he is contributing to the criminal activities of the aggressor state’s political leadership.

The Security Service continues to take necessary measures to protect Ukraine from any aggressive actions by russia.
