Following the SSU's investigation, a deserter and his accomplice, recruted by rf to set fire to Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, were sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, two more FSB agents who had committed arson in the Cherkasy region were sentenced to 15 years in prison with property confiscation.

Both perpetrators were caught red-handed in August 2024 while trying to destroy a relay cabinet of the Ukrzaliznytsia alarm system.

According to the investigation, the order from the rf was carried out by a 25-year-old contract soldier from one of the Cherkasy region military units, who left his unit without permission and was hiding in the region.

At that time, he was actively looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram channels, where he came to the attention of the FSB.

In exchange for promises of ‘quick money,’ the deserter agreed to work for the russian special services. After receiving agent briefing, he began preparations to carry out sabotage on the main railway lines in the central region.

At this stage, he involved his acquaintance, a local unemployed man, in subversive activities.

Together, they conducted reconnaissance near relay cabinets, took photos of them, ‘coordinated’ with their supervisor, and then set them on fire using a flammable mixture.

To ‘report’ to the russian special services, the agents filmed the fires using their mobile phones and sent the videos to the FSB.

During searches, the perpetrators' arson tools and smartphones containing evidence of their work for the russian federation were seized.

Following the SSU investigators' materials, the court found both agents guilty under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sabotage committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy during martial law).

The investigation was conducted by the SSU officers in the Cherkasy region under the procedural guidance of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
