Following SSU investigation, enemy spotter responsible for strikes on Odessa and Poltava faces life imprisonment

The Security Service of Ukraine has collected evidence and sent an indictment to court against an enemy agent exposed in August 2025 for directing enemy strikes on Poltava and Odesa. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The aggressor’s attacks were adjusted by a 35-year-old Poltava resident who has a criminal record for drug trafficking and robbery. He was recruited by the occupiers while seeking ‘easy money’ on Telegram.

The spotter walked the city to identify and mark the locations of the Defence Forces on Google Maps.

Later, the agent was sent to Odesa, where he was to collect data on the aftermath of recent strikes and report to his russian handler.

To communicate with the russian intelligence, the repeat offender used an anonymous chat in a messenger app, to which he sent the coordinates and photos of potential ‘targets’.

The SSU detained the traitor along with his partner, with whom he attempted to burn a military SUV in downtown Poltava.

For the agent and his accomplice, this was an interim task while preparing coordinates for a new series of russian missile and drone attacks.

Both suspects are charged under several Articles of the CCU for the crimes they committed:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 27.2, 28.2, 114-1.1 (complicity in obstructing the AFU’s lawful activities, during a special period, committed upon prior conspiracy, by a group);
  • 27.2, 28.2, 194.2 (complicity in the intentional damage of another's property, committed by arson by prior conspiracy by a group of persons).

Both accused are in custody and face up to 10 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Poltava Office jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
