Enemy agent who spied within National Guard sentenced to life imprisonment following SSU investigation

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, another agent of russian military intelligence - better known as the GRU - has been sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The convicted agent was a contract soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine who had been recruited by the enemy and spied on Ukrainian defenders in Kharkiv region within the force.

While serving as a radio operator at a communications centre, she leaked to the ruscists the decryption codes for air defence combat control signals.

Using this intelligence, the occupiers hoped to identify ‘blind spots’ in Ukrainian radar coverage in order to prepare new strikes on Kharkiv.

The perpetrator also moved around the city identifying and marking on Google Maps the locations of other Defence Forces units that the enemy intended to target.

The enemy accomplice attempted to covertly obtain further information about the coordinates of Ukrainian defenders from military personnel she knew.

The SSU detained the suspect at an early stage of her criminal activity in September 2024. Prior to the detention, action was taken to protect the positions of Ukrainian units in the area where she was conducting reconnaissance.

During searches, the investigators seized a smartphone containing evidence of cooperation with the enemy. The phone also contained pro-kremlin posts in which the suspect justified the temporary occupation of Crimea and parts of Donbas.

Based on the investigation by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 - high treason committed under martial law;
  • 436-2.1 - justification of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office for the Eastern Region.
