Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an agent of russian and belarusian intelligence services, detained in Kyiv in December 2025, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and confiscation of property.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator, acting on behalf of the belarusian services, tracked the locations of the Defence Forces. On the instructions of his russian handlers, he then adjusted missile and drone attacks on the capital’s energy infrastructure.

It has been established that the traitor set up an ‘observation’ post in his own flat, from which he could see the perimeter of one of the capital’s thermal power stations.

He also conducted further reconnaissance near the energy facility to assess its condition after previous attacks on Kyiv.

The enemy accomplice was a general labourer working on the construction of a shelter for a school in the capital.

He came to the attention of the russian and belarusian intelligence via Telegram channels.

After carrying out his espionage tasks, the agent had hoped to be extracted out of Ukraine. To this end, he had prepared a tactical rucksack containing essential items to be used when crossing the border illegally into russia.

However, the SSU acted pre-emptively and detained the suspect at his home in Kyiv.

During a search of his home, officers discovered the rucksack he had prepared for his escape and a mobile phone containing evidence of his crimes.

Based on evidence, the court found the accused guilty of high treason under Article 111.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation was conducted by the SSU Main Investigative Directorate under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
