Following SSU investigation, traitor sentenced to 15 years in prison for leaking personal data of wounded Ukrainian soldiers to ruscists
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) who spied inside Ukraine’s Defence Forces has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
With the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the SSU exposed the perpetrator in April 2025 in Kirovohrad region. He turned out to be a 32-year-old military hospital driver recruited by the enemy.
The investigation established that the agent collected personal data of Ukrainian soldiers undergoing treatment in the hospital after being wounded on the front line.
The traitor also leaked information to the russian GRU on the number of personnel in the clinic and the discharge locations – permanent or temporary deployment bases where the servicemen went after the treatment.
The enemy hoped to use this data to assess the combat capability of the AFU units and to plan combat operations.
The spy also tried to identify coordinates of Ukrainian air defence systems that protect the region’s airspace.
To do this, he drove around the region in a service vehicle and marked military installations on Google Maps.
He sent the collected intelligence via messenger app to his russian handler, whose identity has been established by the Security Service.
After completing his tasks, the agent hoped to be extracted to the temporarily occupied Mariupol, where he planned to join russian troops and fight against Ukraine.
The SSU Military Counterintelligence thwarted these plans, detaining the suspect on the territory of a defence facility. A smartphone he used to contact his GRU handler was seized during the search.
According to the investigation, the man came to russia’s attention through an acquaintance who had deserted his unit and fled to russia.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out jointly with the investigators of the SSU Office in Kirovohrad region under the procedural supervision of the Kropyvnytskyi Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for the Southern Region.
