Following SSU investigation, traitor who adjusted russian artillery strikes on defenders of Sumy region sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, another enemy agent, who spied in Sumy oblast, has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. In the spring of 2022, he directed enemy fire at the border areas of the region.
Using his coordinates, the ruscists carried out artillery strikes on the positions of Ukrainian troops defending the city.
The investigation established that the enemy accomplice is a former law enforcement officer who was recruited through his acquaintance in russia.
To gather intelligence, the perpetrator elicited the ‘necessary’ information from his interlocutors, whom he misled during everyday conversations.
He was primarily interested in the geolocation of checkpoints, backup command posts, and transit stops of armoured convoys of the Defense Forces.
He accumulated the information for a ‘report’ to his FSB handler, with whom he was in contact via an anonymous messenger chat.
The SSU detained the agent in June 2022 when he was conducting reconnaissance near a potential target.
During the search, a smartphone was seized from him with evidence of his intelligence and sabotage activities against Ukraine.
The court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
