Following SSU investigation, traitor who guided russian glide bombs at Zaporizhzhia sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’), who spied in Zaporizhzhia, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation established that he adjusted russian air strikes on the frontline city and informed the enemy on the routes of the Defense Forces moving towards the front line.

The perpetrator is a 22-year-old former conscript who had previously served in one of Ukraine’s military garrisons.

In the spring of 2024, he was demobilized and settled in Zaporizhzhia. He was later recruited remotely by an employee of the GRU 316th intelligence center, based in Sevastopol.

The man came to the aggressor’s attention through his parents, who live in the temporarily occupied part of the region and cooperate with the aggressor.

In exchange for cooperation, the asset was promised quick money.

Initially, the agent carried out a test task – he passed on to the occupiers the geolocation of the military unit where he had served.

After that, the traitor began to visit Zaporizhzhia to photograph defense facilities, record their coordinates, and provide this intelligence to his handler.

He also monitored the armoured vehicles of the Defense Forces moving towards the southern front.

The SSU Counterintelligence detained the traitor in September 2024 near a defense facility, where he was verifying the coordinates of a potential target that russia planned to strike with a guided aerial bomb.

Based on evidence collected by the SSU investigators, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU – high treason committed under martial law.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
