Following SSU investigation, former ‘party of regions’ member sentenced to 15 years in prison for guiding strikes at Sumy region
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an FSB agent, detained in the Sumy region in October 2024, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. He is a former member of the Shostka City Council from the banned party of regions who had been recruited by the enemy and was adjusting russian attacks on the community.
The investigation revealed that russia’s federal security service had promised him russian citizenship in exchange for his cooperation with the aggressor state.
To carry out his espionage activities, the traitor drove around the area in his own car, recording the locations of the Defence Forces' bases and their routes of movement with his mobile phone camera.
He also attempted to covertly elicit intelligence from acquaintances during casual conversations on ‘neutral’ topics.
The agent compiled the collected information for his handler in russia. This turned out to be an FSB Directorate for the Bryansk region employee, whose identity has been established by the Security Service.
As well as passing on the coordinates of potential ‘targets’, the asset called the russian intelligence to attack the city as soon as possible.
The SSU documented the traitor’s crimes and detained him at his home.
A smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy was seized during searches.
Based on evidence collected by SSU investigators, the court found the perpetrator guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
