Following SSU investigation, blogger sentenced to 15 years in prison for guiding russian attacks on Kupiansk defenders
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, an enemy agent, exposed by the SSU in September 2024 for adjusting strikes on the Kharkiv region, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
As the investigation established, he turned out to be a resident of a frontline village who administered a Telegram channel with a total audience of 10,000 users.
Using the online platform, the agent covertly gathered data on the bases and movement routes of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in the Kupiansk sector.
After obtaining the geolocations of Ukrainian troops, the perpetrator walked to the target areas to conduct further reconnaissance and report to his handler in russia.
The traitor also attempted to burn a Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicle near Kupiansk at night. To do this, he tracked the vehicle and prepared a flammable mixture.
The SSU apprehended the agent red-handed after his failed attempt to destroy the military vehicle.
The blogger came to the attention of russian intelligence officers when he posted pro-kremlin messages on his Telegram channel.
After the recruitment, the asset covertly questioned members of the online community about the deployment locations and movements of Ukrainian soldiers defending Kupiansk.
The agent transmitted the gathered data to a russian intelligence officer via an anonymous chat in a messaging app in the form of coordinates and photographs of potential ‘targets’.
During the searches, a smartphone, which he used to collect intelligence and communicate with the aggressor state, was seized from the suspect.
Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 15.3, 194.2 (attempted intentional destruction or damage to property).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
