Following SSU investigation, GRU agent who adjusted strikes on Zaporizhzhia sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, another agent of russia’s military intelligence (‘the GRU’) who spied in Zaporizhzhia oblast has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The perpetrator adjusted russian missile, bomb, drone, and artillery strikes on frontline villages in the region.
The enemy’s tasks were carried out by a local kindergarten security guard recruited by the occupiers.
To get him to cooperate, the GRU used his friend, a choir singer at a Ukrainian Orthodox Church of moscow patriarchate, who had fled to the temporarily occupied part of the region and became an agent of russian special services.
Through her, the traitor kept in touch with his handler, with whom he coordinated his intelligence and sabotage activities.
The agent passed the locations of civilian buildings and critical infrastructure in the region to the occupiers.
Using the asset’s intelligence, the ruscists shelled residential buildings in the village of Stepnogorsk at the end of 2023. As a result of the attack, a 43-year-old civilian was killed, and many private homes were completely destroyed.
The SSU Counterintelligence detained the traitor in January 2024. During the searches, a smartphone with an anonymous chat in a messenger app was seized from him. The enemy accomplice used the phone to contact his russian ‘liaison’.
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
