Following SSU investigation, GRU agent sentenced to 15 years in prison for helping ruscists break through to Pokrovsk

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’), who operated in Donetsk region, has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

According to the investigation, he helped the occupiers plan combat operations against Ukrainian troops on Pokrovsk direction, one of the hottest areas of the frontline.

To do this, the agent walked around the frontline area, covertly recording fortifications and firing positions of Ukrainian defenders.

During his reconnaissance sorties, the spy also tried to identify the locations of military equipment repair bases, as well as depots with Ukrainian weapons and ammunition.

The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered the GRU’s accomplice at an early stage and detained him at his home when he was preparing an intelligence ‘report’ for his handler.

According to the investigation, the agent was a 49-year-old local unemployed man, remotely recruited by the occupiers through Odnoklassniki social network, where he posted anti-Ukrainian comments.

A phone with evidence of his work for russia was seized during searches.

Based on the evidence collected by the Service, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
