Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent – exposed by the SSU in November 2025 whilst preparing acts of sabotage on the railway near Kharkiv – has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and confiscation of property.

The investigation revealed that the task assigned by the russian intelligence service was carried out by a local mechanic who had been recruited by the enemy. He came to russia’s attention when he posted anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.

After the recruitment, the traitor received instructions from his handler to manufacture improvised plastic explosive bombs fitted with motion sensors.

It has been established that the russians delivered the components for the explosives to their accomplice using drones, dropping ‘packages’ at a pre-arranged location in the Kharkiv region.

The agent was also conducting reconnaissance along railway tracks and setting up remote camera traps nearby to identify the most vulnerable sections for detonation.

Subsequently, the perpetrator planted one explosive device under the tracks and another directly under a goods wagon.

The SSU Counterintelligence documented the traitor’s crimes and detained him whilst he was preparing for the sabotage operation.

During the searches of the suspect’s home and car, a smartphone used to communicate with the russian intelligence operative was seized, along with components for improvised explosive devices.

Based on evidence, the court found the accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU:

• 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
• 113.2 (sabotage, committed under martial law);
• 15.2, 113.2 (completed attempt to commit sabotage, committed under martial law);
• 14.1, 113.2 (preparation to commit sabotage under martial law);
• 263.1 (unlawful handling of explosive substances).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
