Following SSU investigation, enemy agent sentenced to 15 years in prison for plotting double terrorist attack in Lviv region
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, an enemy agent, exposed in May 2025 in Lviv region, has been convicted to 15 years in prison and confiscation of property.
The investigation established that the perpetrator was acting on russia’s orders and attempted to blow up a checkpoint and a Defence Forces vehicle in western Ukraine.
The SSU acted preemptively and detained the terrorist red-handed in a hotel room, where he was making bombs for the attacks.
The explosions were prepared by a 33-year-old unemployed man from Dnipropetrovsk region recruited by the aggressor state. He came to their attention while looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram.
The agent arrived in Lviv region, settled in a hotel, and took two improvised explosive devices from a cache, having received the coordinates via a messenger app from his russian handler.
Then, the asset went to his temporary home to equip the bombs with mobile phones for remote detonation.
The russian intelligence services planned to activate the IEDs via remote access to both devices.
To record the aftermath of the explosions, the agent was to install hidden video cameras opposite the sites of the planned terrorist attacks.
Two IEDs and a smartphone, which he used to contact his handler in russia, were seized during the search.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Lviv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
