Based on evidence gathered by the Security Service of Ukraine, a russian military intelligence agent (known as the GRU) who was preparing improvised bombs for terrorist attacks in Zaporizhzhia was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

SSU officers detained the suspect in March 2025.

As the investigation revealed, a local drug addict, recruited by the enemy, carried out the orders from the russian federation. He came to the attention of russian intelligence officers while looking for easy money on Telegram.

In exchange for the promise of quick pay, the agent began assembling IEDs, reinforcing them with nuts and bolts to maximize their destructive effect.

To this end, following instructions from the ruscists, he purchased chemical components, construction materials, and other supplies needed to manufacture bombs at home.

The perpetrator had to hide the finished IEDs in caches within and around a frontline city, and then send the corresponding coordinates to his handler in russia.

In addition, a russian intelligence officer instructed his accomplice to carry out subversive propaganda activities on behalf of the aggressor country.

To do this, the traitor posted provocative leaflets throughout the city, aimed at destabilizing the internal situation in southern Ukraine.

During a search, the detainee was seized of a canister of solvent, other chemical components, and additional damage elements for manufacturing IEDs, as well as mobile phones used to communicate with the enemy.

Based on evidence provided by the SSU, the court found the agent guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (treason committed under martial law).

The investigation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Zaporizhzhia Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense in the Eastern Region.
