Following SSU investigation, FSB agent plotting attack on SOF in Sumy region convicted to 15 years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an agent of russia’s federal security service, detained in November 2022 on the border of Sumy region, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation established that he and an accomplice were preparing sabotage against officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Special Operations Forces deployed to the north-eastern sector of the front.
The traitors attempted to track the locations of Ukrainian soldiers and their routes of movement in the region.
The agent then received coordinates from the FSB for a cache from which he was to retrieve combat grenades and anti-tank mines to carry out sabotage.
The SSU acted preemptively and detained the suspect in a forest near the cache with the weapons.
He has now been sentenced to prison. The convicted individual is a local handyman recruited by the FSB. He was spotted by them when he posted pro-kremlin comments on Telegram.
The agent then recruited an acquaintance to work with him, and together they spied on Ukrainian servicemen and identified the locations of Defence Forces units.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 14.1, 113.2 (preparation for sabotage under martial law).
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Sumy Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
