Following SSU investigation, repeat offenders sentenced to 15 years in prison for arson in Vinnytsia region

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, two enemy agents, who committed arson attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinets in Vinnytsia region, have been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

In October 2024, the SSU detained both perpetrators within 24 hours after the crime. They turned out to be a resident of the city of Gnivan, who already had a criminal record for document forgery, and her acquaintance, who had previously served a sentence for theft.

As the investigation established, both individuals were spotted by the aggressor state on Telegram channels, where they were looking for ‘easy money’.

After the recruitment, the assets found the railway power equipment and approved the target with their russian handler.

The perpetrators then arrived at the location, broke open the doors of two railway cabinets, poured a flammable mixture inside and set them on fire.

In this way, the ruscists hoped to block train traffic in order to disrupt the Defence Forces transport logistics.

Tools used for arson and smartphones, from which the saboteurs coordinated their actions with the russian intelligence, were seized during the searches.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found both accused guilty of crimes under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2, 111.2 (high treason, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy under martial law);
  • 113.2 (sabotage, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Vinnytsia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
