Following SSU investigation, two arsonists sentenced to 15 and 10 years in prison for destroying Kyiv railway facilities on FSB orders
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, two enemy agents, exposed in March 2025 for carrying out arson attacks in Kyiv, have been given prison sentences.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrators were carrying out a task of russia’s federal security service to destroy relay cabinets on the railway lines in the capital.
The ruscists hoped that this would disrupt the smooth flow of freight transport, particularly to frontline areas.
The russian intelligence services had recruited two local drug addicts, one of whom had already been convicted for drug possession, to plan and carry out the sabotage operations.
The FSB recruited them via Telegram channels, where they were looking for ‘easy’ money to buy drugs.
After the recruitment, the assets received instructions from their handler to purchase a flammable mixture with which to destroy a relay cabinet.
They broke into the protective casing of the electrical equipment and set it alight from the inside, recording the fire on a mobile phone for the FSB.
It has been established that the sabotage operation was remotely coordinated by a ‘liaison officer’ of the russian service based in the moscow region.
During the searches of the detainees’ premises, the clothing they wore while carrying out the arson attack was found, as well as mobile phones containing evidence of the crime.
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found both accused agents guilty of sabotage, committed by an organised group under martial law (Article 28.3, 113.2 of the CCU).
One of the agents was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property, while the other was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, given his cooperation with the investigation.
The russian citizen from the moscow region, who ran this intelligence network, has been charged in absentia; the investigation into his case is ongoing.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region, under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
