SSU detains university lecturer who guided russian aerial bombs at targets in Kharkiv

In Kharkiv, the SSU Counterintelligence has detained another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’). The woman was preparing coordinates for a new series of russian missile and bomb attacks on the city.

The enemy accomplice turned out to be a 61-year-old foreign language teacher at a local university, recruited by the enemy. She came to the GRU’s attention through a relative who lives in russia and cooperates with the russian intelligence.

After the recruitment, the agent began walking around the city to record the locations of Defence Forces personnel and military equipment.

She also photographed and marked on electronic maps the locations of buildings that, in her opinion, could be used by Ukrainian defenders.

In addition, the teacher was covertly gathering information about Kharkiv defenders from acquaintances in the course of seemingly ‘everyday conversations’.

She summarised the collected intelligence in a ‘report’, part of which was in English for the sake of secrecy, and sent it to her GRU handler via a messenger app.

To conceal her work for the aggressor state, the enemy asset changed smartphones, contacted her handler in anonymous chat rooms, and deleted the texting after each communication session.

However, this did not help her. The SSU Counterintelligence identified the perpetrator at an early stage, documented her crimes, and apprehended her.

Simultaneously, action was taken to protect the Defence Forces locations that she had reconnoitered.

Smartphones which the GRU agent used to gather intelligence and communicate with her handler were seized during the search.

SSU investigators notified her of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
