SSU detains enemy spotter preparing new russian strike on Chernivtsi

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an enemy agent in Bukovyna. He was adjusting russian missile and drone attacks on the city and calling on the ruscists to continue their strikes on the western region.

His main task was to look for, photograph and video record local industrial enterprises, aviation infrastructure and railway facilities.

According to the investigation, the enemy agent turned out to be a 35-year-old local unemployed man hiding from mobilisation.

The occupiers recruited him on a Telegram channel, where he justified russia’s armed aggression and war crimes, in particular the strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine.

After recruitment, the agent walked around Chernivtsi, taking photos and videos of critical infrastructure and locations that, in his opinion, could be used by Ukrainian defenders.

The enemy asset summarised the information he had gathered in a report, which he sent to a chatbot specially created by the russians.

Simultaneously with his intelligence activities, the agent spread anti-Ukrainian comments on the banned social network VKontakte. Among other things, he approved of russia’s combined strike on Chernivtsi in July this year, which killed and seriously injured civilians.

The SSU Counterintelligence detained the traitor at his home in Chernivtsi. During the searches, the investigators found pro-kremlin symbols, as well as drawings and a smartphone with evidence of adjusting strikes on Bukovyna.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 436-2.3 (production and distribution of materials justifying and recognising russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine as legitimate).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
