Kyiv: SSU detains dealers who sold Ukrainian passports to russian citizens
In Kyiv, the SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security apprehended offenders who set up a scheme of fake ‘granting’ of Ukrainian citizenship.
The fraudsters posed as officers of the SSU and offered foreigners their ‘assistance’ in obtaining Ukrainian passports.
To do this, they promised their clients to use their supposed ‘connections’ in law enforcement.
The ‘passport’ cost USD 10,000.
For this amount, the gang members ‘guaranteed’ Ukrainian citizenship to a russian woman who had a permit for temporary residence in Ukraine.
For ‘credibility’, the fraudsters showed her a fake ‘service ID’.
The SSU detained the suspects during the handover of the first half of the payment for the ‘document’.
According to the investigation, the dealers are two residents of Kyiv, one of whom had been prosecuted for assaulting a police officer.
The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU carried out the operation jointly with the National Police under the supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
