SSU detains two GRU agents who directed enemy glide bombs at Donetsk region defenders
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another two enemy agents in Donetsk region. They were adjusting russian strikes on the locations of the Defence Forces in Kramatorsk sector.
Using the coordinates provided by the assets, the occupiers launched reconnaissance drones to verify this intelligence. If the information was confirmed, russia planned to attack the ‘targets’ with heavy guided bombs and long-range artillery.
The Security Service of Ukraine thwarted these plans: the traitors were identified at an early stage, their crimes were documented, and they were detained. Action was taken to protect the locations of the Defence Forces that they had reconnoitred.
The investigation established that two locals, handled separately by the russian military intelligence, were responsible for directing enemy fire. The GRU ‘liaison’ turned out to be the commander of one of the russian units fighting on the eastern front.
One of the agents, a 61-year-old handyman from Kramatorsk district, drove around the area, recording the fortifications and firing positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He carried out these reconnaissance trips under the guise of travelling to frontline settlements for part-time work.
The investigation established that the man was recruited by the GRU through his acquaintance in russia, to whom he confirmed his wish for a complete occupation of Ukraine and readiness to work for the invaders.
Another agent, a 52-year-old unemployed man, came to the enemy attention when he posted anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.
After the recruitment, he began to track the locations of Ukrainian troops and equipment near Kramatorsk.
To gather additional intelligence, the agent covertly elicited information from acquaintances in the course of seemingly ‘innocent’ conversations.
Smartphones with evidence of information gathering for the ruscists and contacts with the GRU handler were seized from the suspects.
SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
