The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented a series of terrorist attacks in Poltava region. As a result of a special operation, the SSU apprehended an enemy agent who was preparing explosions near local administrative buildings of Ukrainian military and law enforcement.

The traitor received an order from russia to carry out explosions near the district police station and the city Territorial Recruitment Center during rush hour.

The agent was to plant an improvised explosive device near the state institution.

At the time of placing the bomb, the occupiers planned to detonate the explosives together with their asset.

The SSU identified the agent at an early stage and detained her.

According to the investigation, the executor of russia’s order is a 30-year-old unemployed woman from Poltava region who was looking for ‘easy money’ in an online casino, where she was recruited by an officer of russian special services.

To prepare for the crime, the perpetrator received money from her handler to rent a safe house and purchase components for making explosives.

She also received instructions from russia on how to make an IED, which she hid in a kettle having added destructive elements and an electronic device with remote access for the occupiers.

Components for explosives and a mobile device with evidence of her contacts with the russian handler were seized during searches.

SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

• 14.1, 258.2 (preparation to commit a terrorist act);
• 28.2, 263.1 (illegal handling of explosives).

The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Offices in Poltava and Ivano-Frankivsk regions under the procedural supervision of Poltava Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
