SSU detains agent who leaked locations of Ukrainian minefields to enemy and wished for occupation of Donetsk oblast
In Donetsk region, the SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended another agent of russian military intelligence. He is a 41-year-old taxi driver from Kramatorsk who helped russian forces advance on the front line and wished for complete occupation of the region.
The perpetrator passed locations of AFU’s mine and explosive barriers and fortified areas near the front line to the occupiers.
Under the guise of taxi trips, the man also recorded firing positions of the Defense Forces and directions of movement of military convoys.
The Security Service detained the agent at an early stage of his reconnaissance activities and prevented the disclosure of classified data to the GRU.
According to the investigation, the individual was recruited by the adversary through a banned russian social network, where he offered his assistance in the war against Ukraine.
In the event of the occupation of the region, the traitor planned to form his own squad of ‘like-minded people’ to participate in raids on members of the resistance movement.
After recruitment, the asset contacted the enemy through a militant of the russian occupation troops fighting on the eastern front.
During the search, a phone with evidence of his work for the enemy was seized from the suspect.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The detained agent is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
