SSU detains russian agent for attempting to sabotage a military echelon near Kharkiv

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained a russian agent who was tasked by the enemy with disrupting a rail route used by the Defense Forces in Kharkiv region.

The investigation has revealed that the ruscists were planning to blow up the railway lines to sabotage the movement of a Ukrainian military cargo train.

To this end, they recruited a 54-year-old local mechanic, who came to the attention of russian special services after posting anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.

Tasked by the enemy, the traitor initially planted an IED, fitted with a sensor, underneath the tracks. The blast, however, failed to derail the train.

The new order was to plant a second IED directly under a military train, rather than on the railway tracks.

The SSU disrupted the plot, preventing a new explosion and detaining the agent during the preparations for the sabotage attempt.

According to the investigation, following the agent's recruitment, the ruscists supplied him with instructions for constructing the explosive device and provided the necessary materials, specifically sensors and 8 kilograms of plastic explosive.

The occupiers used a drone to deliver the components to the agent, dropping the package at a designated point in Kharkiv area.

During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of cooperation with the enemy was seized from the detainee.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators have served him with a notice of suspicion under the following Articles of the CCU:

  • 113.2 (sabotage, committed under martial law);
  • 14.1, 113.2 (preparation for the commission of sabotage under martial law);
  • 263.1 (illegal handling of explosives).

The enemy accomplice is in custody without the right to bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
