SSU detains russian agent involved in preparation of missile strike on energy facilities and river port in Izmail
As a result of a special operation in Odesa region, the SSU Counterintelligence exposed another traitor.
The aggressor’s accomplice is an official of one of the enterprises of the Izmail River Port, who was recruited by russian special services after the enemy launched its full-scale invasion.
On the occupiers’ instructions, the agent collected information on deployment of Ukrainian Defence Forces and critical infrastructure in Izmail.
The enemy informant was primarily interested in location of power substations and other municipal energy facilities.
The man also scouted the sites of Ukrainian checkpoints. During covert surveillance, he reconnoitred fortifications, weapons and number of personnel.
Moreover, the traitor passed information to the aggressor on protection and peculiarities of operation of the local river port.
Russians needed the intelligence to prepare a series of missile strikes on Ukrainian targets.
The SSU exposed the agent, documented all stages of his criminal activity and detained him on an attempt to transmit classified data to the aggressor.
According to the investigation, the spy was to pass intelligence to his supervisor in the form of coordinates and photos through an anonymous Telegram channel.
During the search, the SSU found his mobile phone with evidence of covert communication with the enemy.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU). Court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the involved to justice.
The SSU Odesa Office carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
