SSU detains traitor couple who prepared terrorist attacks in Dnipro and checked ‘work’ of other enemy agents
The SSU Counterintelligence has foiled new attempts by russian special services to destabilize the situation in Dnipro. As a result of proactive efforts, a local couple was detained: on orders from russia, they were preparing terrorist attacks in the frontline city.
To carry out their tasks, the perpetrators set up six caches in the city and its suburbs with improvised explosive devices and F-1 grenades.
The enemy planned to recruit a new group of agents who would retrieve the explosives from the sites and use them to carry out attacks in crowded places.
In addition to hiding the bombs, both traitors ‘controlled’ the execution of sabotage attacks by other assets.
For example, they recorded the results of an arson attack on a post office committed by other russian accomplices, who have been detained by the SSU. The couple reported on the consequences to their handler in russia via a messenger app.
The Security Service identified the two agents at an early stage, documented their crimes and detained them.
According to the investigation, they are a 42-year-old contract soldier from one of the military units, who carried out his sabotage activities while on leave, and his 24-year-old wife, recruited on one of the Telegram channels.
During the search, new IEDs, disguised as thermoses and reinforced with self-tapping screws, were seized. Phones and SIM cards that they used to communicate with the russian handler were also found.
SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion of crimes under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 263.1 (illegal handling of ammunition or explosives);
- 263-1.2 (illegal manufacture of an explosive device, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
The suspects are in custody without bail and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural guidance of Dnipro Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office for the Eastern Region.
