SSU detains FSB spotter-and-saboteur who helped russia strike Defence Forces in Odesa region
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained another enemy agent in Odesa oblast. The perpetrator identified and passed to the aggressor state the coordinates of Ukraine’s Defence Forces installations, and was later instructed to set fire to one of them.
The proactive work of the SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security foiled the sabotage. Simultaneously, action was taken to protect the Defence Forces whose geolocations were recorded by the spotter.
The latter turned out to be a 41-year-old unemployed resident of Izmail who was hiding from mobilisation. The FSB recruited him through Telegram channels, where he was looking for ‘easy money’.
His main task was to find the temporary deployment points of Ukrainian units. These were sites that the occupiers planned to attack from the air.
First, the agent was interested in buildings that, in his opinion, could be used by servicemen of the National Guard and the Military Law Enforcement Service.
To gather intelligence, the enemy’s accomplice scouted the area, photographed potential ‘targets’, marked them on Google Maps, and sent them to the FSB via a messenger app.
Later, the handler ordered him to set fire to one of the sites he had identified.
However, the SSU acted preemptively and detained the suspect.
A mobile phone with evidence of cooperation with the occupiers was seized from him during the search.
Based on the evidence collected, Security Service investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU – high treason, committed under martial law.
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security and investigators of the SSU Odesa Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
