SSU detains russian citizen who guided strikes on Zaporizhzhia on orders of russian intelligence
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained yet another spotter adjusting russian strikes on Zaporizhzhia region. The perpetrator turned out to be a russian citizen who lived in a village near the front line in the region and directed russian air strikes against the regional capital and surrounding areas.
As the investigation revealed, he came to the aggressor state’s attention when he posted pro-russian comments on social media.
Acting on orders from the enemy’s intelligence services, the man began regularly walking the area 20 km from the line of contact to identify the positions of the Defence Forces, against which the enemy was preparing strikes using attack drones and guided aerial bombs.
The agent’s task was to establish the coordinates of the combat positions of Ukrainian artillery, which is keeping russian assault groups in the Zaporizhzhia sector under fire control.
He was also tasked with identifying the bases of Ukrainian air defence forces, which are protecting the airspace over the regional capital.
The SSU identified the perpetrator whilst he was carrying out reconnaissance activities.
Action was taken to secure the Defence Forces’ locations, and the agent was caught red-handed whilst reconnoitring the area near a military facility.
During a search of the suspect’s home, communication devices, which he had used to contact his handler, were seized.
SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorised disclosure of information regarding the movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia Oblast under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
