SSU detains deserter preparing terrorist attack in downtown Zaporizhzhia on russia’s orders
The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented another terrorist attack that russia was plotting in Zaporizhzhia. As a result of pre-emptive actions, an enemy agent who was preparing to detonate an improvised explosive device in the city centre was detained.
The investigation established that the man was supposed to plant explosives near a location where large numbers of people gather and then report to his russian handler.
The occupiers planned to remotely activate the IED during rush hour, when the site would be at its most crowded.
The Security Service uncovered the enemy’s intentions at an early stage and detained the perpetrator while he was preparing the bomb for the terrorist attack.
The enemy agent is a 37-year-old man mobilized from the frontline town of Myrnohrad in Donetsk oblast. He had left his military unit without permission and was hiding in Kyiv.
While there, he began looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram and came to the attention of russian special services.
After recruitment, the asset received a test task: to identify the coordinates of checkpoints and permanent deployment locations of the Defence Forces in the capital.
Later, ruscists sent him to Zaporizhzhia, where he rented an apartment and purchased components to manufacture improvised explosive devices.
Components for bombs and a mini-camera were found during the search of the flat. The agent was supposed to install the camera near the site of the attack to record its consequences.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 408.4 (desertion, committed under martial law);
- 15.2, 263.1 (illegal handling of explosives);
- 263-1.2 (illegal manufacture of explosives or explosive devices).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region under the procedural oversight of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office for the Eastern Region.
