Dnipropetrovsk region: SSU detains deserter and his accomplice who on orders from russia prepared bombs for terrorist acts

The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented new terrorist attacks in Dnipropetrovsk region. A russian spy cell, consisting of two agents who were manufacturing improvised explosive devices under orders from the enemy, was detained in a city within the industrial region following preemptive actions.

The perpetrators are a 27-year-old deserter from Pokrovskyi district, Donetsk region, and his 34-year-old female accomplice, both recruited by ruscists.

The deserter left his military unit without permission and hid in her apartment in Dnipropetrovsk region. Later, they started looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram channels, which brought them to the attention of the occupiers.

After being recruited, the suspects received instructions from their handler on how to make a bomb to blow up a vehicle.

Investigators found that after making the bomb, the suspects planned to disguise it as a fire extinguisher, pack it with nuts to enhance its lethal effect, and then conceal it at coordinates provided by their handler. Russian intelligence intended to detonate the device remotely by calling a mobile phone wired into the bomb.

The SSU uncovered the enemy's plans in advance and detained both agents while they were completing the assembly of the IED in their home.

The search found bomb components and smartphones containing evidence of their contacts with the occupiers.

SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion under Article 14.1, 258.2 of the CCU (preparation for a terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

The suspects are in custody facing 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the Kryvyi Rih Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office for the Eastern Region.
