SSU detains agent of russia’s GRU who was preparing breakthrough of sabotage groups towards Sumy

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an agent of russia’s military intelligence agency (‘the GRU’) who was preparing a breakthrough by sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the aggressor country towards the city of Sumy.

According to the investigation, the enemy's accomplice is a former nurse from Sumy region, who was recruited through Telegram channels.

The agent's main task was to conduct reconnaissance of the border areas establishing the coordinates of checkpoints and strongholds of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to findings, the enemy planned to use the intelligence to prepare breakthrough on the front line. In particular, the russians tried to find weaknesses and blind spots in the defense in order to enter the rear and fortify new positions before the main enemy forces arrived.

The traitor equipped her bicycle with a mini camera, which she used to ride around the area and secretly record military facilities.

The woman sent the collected intelligence, including photos and videos with objects marked on the map, to her handler via messenger.

The SSU Counterintelligence has exposed the suspect and documented every step of her cooperation with the occupiers. The SSU have also taken comprehensive measures to secure the locations of the Defense Forces in the area.

In the final stage of the special operation, the agent was detained “red-handed” while she was recording a border bridge for russian sabotage groups to cross.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The offender is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Rivne region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
