SSU detains GRU agent who set up several Telegram channels to guide strikes at Donetsk region

In the Donetsk region, the SSU Counterintelligence has detained another agent of the russian military intelligence, the GRU. He turned out to be a local blogger guiding enemy air strikes in the Kramatorsk area via several Telegram channels that he created. These online resources had a total audience of almost half a thousand users.

The investigation revealed that the agent used his online reach to gather the coordinates of Ukrainian troops and pass them on to his handler in russia. This information could subsequently have been used by the enemy to prepare missile and bomb strikes on Kramatorsk and the surrounding areas.

To verify some of this intelligence, the suspect travelled around the city and its outskirts under the pretence of visiting his dacha.

Additionally, the blogger used his Telegram channels to disseminate kremlin’s propaganda. Specifically, he circulated false information about the Defence Forces and the operational situation on the front line while simultaneously urging local residents to support russian armed groupings.

The SSU identified the perpetrator, documented his crimes, and detained him at his home. At the same time, action was taken to secure the locations of the defenders of the Donetsk oblast.

According to the investigation, the individual came to the GRU’s attention when he posted anti-Ukrainian comments on social media.

During a search of the suspect’s premises, a smartphone and computer equipment containing evidence of his work for the russian military intelligence were seized.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The issue of additional charges against the agent for spreading enemy propaganda is under consideration.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
