The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another russian agent in the Kharkiv region. Acting on the FSB's orders, the perpetrator used concealed surveillance cameras to guide the enemy's attacks on frontline areas in eastern Ukraine.

As the investigation revealed, the primary ‘targets’ of the ruscists included operational airfields of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukrainian artillery firing positions, in particular multiple launch rocket systems.

In order to identify the ‘target’ locations and guide missile, bomb and drone attacks on them, the russian service recruited an unemployed resident of the Chuhuiv district.

To carry out his assignment, the agent walked around the area to identify Defence Forces units and ‘leak’ their coordinates to the enemy.

Furthermore, if he identified the ‘required’ targets, he had to install concealed video cameras near them, with remote access for russian intelligence officers.

Using concealed cameras, the ruscists hoped to track the positions of Ukrainian troops in real time and target them with combined attacks.

SSU officers exposed the suspect in advance and documented him installing ‘video traps’ in trees near sites he believed might be used by the Defense Forces.

At the final stage of the operation, the agent was detained whilst preparing for a new reconnaissance mission.

During searches of the suspect's premises, investigators seized four smartphones which he constantly changed to maintain covert communication with the FSB and collect intelligence.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of his property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
