SSU detains FSB agent preparing to eliminate Ukrainian serviceman in Zaporizhzhia
The SSU Counterintelligence prevented the contract killing of a Defence Forces serviceman in Zaporizhzhia. As a result of pre-emptive action, an FSB agent who was preparing to assassinate a soldier from an elite reconnaissance unit of the AFU Air Assault Troops has been detained in the city.
The perpetrator attempted to plant an improvised explosive device in the serviceman’s home in order to remotely detonate it later.
The investigation established that the terrorist attack was prepared by a 44-year-old occupational safety engineer of a local medical facility who had been recruited by russia’s federal security service.
He rented out a room where the soldier lived during his rotation after combat missions on the southern front.
After ‘reporting’ this to the FSB, the agent was tasked with retrieving an IED from a cache and secretly placing it near the entrance door to the serviceman’s home.
An electric detonator and additional components for the bomb, as well as other evidence of contacts with the FSB, were seized during the search of the suspect’s home.
The agent was recruited by the ruscists through an acquaintance who lives in the temporarily occupied Melitopol and works for the russian intelligence.
While carrying out his main task, the traitor also passed to the enemy the geolocations of active energy facilities in the city. The occupiers planned to attack these targets with guided aerial bombs.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Zaporizhzhia Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
