SSU prevents terrorist attack in Odesa: FSB agent who planned to blow up Ukrainian serviceman detained
The Security Service of Ukraine has foiled another terrorist attack that russian special services plotted in Odesa.
As a result of the operation, an enemy agent whose task was to blow up an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been detained.
The perpetrator is a 31-year-old resident of Odesa region who was recruited through Telegram channels offering easy money.
First, he was given a so-called test task – to set fire to a military car. After completing it, the asset received instructions on how to carry out the assassination.
He was to pick up an improvised explosive device from a prepared hiding place and plant it at the officer’s location.
The SSU uncovered the enemy’s intentions in time and documented the executor’s criminal actions.
According to the investigation, the agent’s task was to plant explosives with shrapnel elements at a playground in one of the residential areas of Odesa. Then, russian special services planned to remotely activate the IED using a mobile phone attached to the bomb.
The SSU apprehended the traitor immediately after he planted the explosive device at the site of the planned attack.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:
- 15.2, 258.2 (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 28.2, 194.2 (intentional destruction of property by arson by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 28.2, 114-1.1 (obstruction of the AFU’s lawful activities during a special period committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
The suspect is in custody without bail.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Odesa Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
