The Counterintelligence and the investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine have thwarted another attempt by russia to carry out a terrorist attack in the Kyiv region. Thanks to pre-emptive action, a local unemployed woman who was to detonate a car bomb near a block of flats in a suburb of the capital has been exposed.

The investigation revealed that the ruscists had recruited the asset remotely, posing as officers of the Security Service and National Police of Ukraine.

Initially, a russian intelligence officer telephoned the woman, introduced himself as a Ukrainian law enforcement officer, and offered to help her obtain medication she had previously purchased from specialist websites.

She was then given a task by the enemy: to collect a package from a cache and await further instructions. It was later established that the bag contained an improvised explosive device.

After she had collected the package, the russian handler instructed her to carry out additional checks to ensure the IED was functional.

They then directed her to a residential area on the outskirts of the capital, instructing her to leave the concealed bomb under the wheel of a car parked next to a local supermarket.

The investigation is underway to identify and bring to justice all those collaborating with the aggressor state.
