SSU detains student recruited by russia to make bombs for new terrorist attacks in Dnipro
The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented new attempts by ruscists to carry out terrorist attacks in Dnipro. As a result of pre-emptive actions, an 18-year-old student was detained in the city. On russia’s orders, he was manufacturing improvised explosive devices for a series of explosions.
It was established that the student of a local vocational school was looking for easy money on Telegram, where he was ‘noticed’ by the russian intelligence services.
After remote recruitment, the agent moved to a rented apartment, where he set up a ‘workshop’ to manufacture the bombs.
The individual received money to move to the flat and purchase components for an IED from the occupiers.
His task was to manufacture the explosive device and disguise it as a fire extinguisher, equipping it with a mobile phone for remote detonation.
The perpetrator then planned to obtain coordinates from the occupiers and to leave the IED at the designated location for a terrorist attack.
The Security Service exposed the traitor at an early stage, documented his crimes, and apprehended him in his temporary home as he was finishing the manufacture of the first bomb.
IED components and a smartphone, which he used to contact his handler in russia, were seized from the suspect during the search.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Articles 14.1 and 258.2 of the CCU (preparation for a terrorist act).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
