SSU exposes GRU spotter preparing russia’s simultaneous attacks on three regions of Ukraine

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) who was preparing coordinates for russian air strikes on Volyn, Rivne, and Ternopil regions.

The investigation established that the perpetrator was trying to identify and transmit to the enemy the geolocations of energy and aviation infrastructure. The occupiers planned to use this intelligence for a new series of missile attacks.

The agent was also monitoring mobile communication towers and railway facilities with heavy cargo traffic.

The SSU identified the perpetrator at the initial stage of his reconnaissance activities, documented his actions, and detained him.

The agent adjusting the aggressor’s strikes turned out to be a 42-year-old displaced person from Luhansk region. To obtain a ‘reservation’ from mobilisation, he took a job at a critically important enterprise in the region.

He came to the GRU’s attention through a relative living in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

After remote recruitment, the agent began travelling through western Ukraine in his car, with a video recorder running, recording the geolocations of strategic installations. The traitor sent the footage to his russian handler.

A smartphone with evidence of his reconnaissance activity and contacts with the GRU handler, whose identity has already been established by the SSU Counterintelligence, was seized during the search.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Volyn region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
