The Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another agent of russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU, in the Donetsk region. The perpetrator was helping enemy guide their bombs and attack drones at ‘targets’ in Slovyansk area.

The investigation revealed that the spotter was a draft evader living in a village near the front line, who had been recruited by the enemy.

He came to the GRU’s attention due to anti-Ukrainian comments that he posted in chats on Telegram, while rarely leaving his home.

After the recruitment, he began subtly questioning his wife about the locations of Ukrainian troops that she might have seen while in Sloviansk and neighbouring areas.

He stored the information he gathered on his smartphone in the form of approximate markers on Google Maps to report to the russians later.

It has been established that the agent was in contact with the GRU via a ‘liaison’ from the Joint Strategic Command of the moscow military district.

They used a messaging app with anonymous accounts to communicate.

The SSU exposed the agent in the early stages of his work for the aggressor state, documenting his espionage activities before detaining him at his home.

A mobile phone and a tablet with evidence of his work for the GRU was seized from the suspect.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
