SSU and National Police detain another six enemy agents for arson attacks in Ukraine

The Security Service and the National Police have detained six enemy agents responsible for arson attacks in several Ukrainian regions.

The perpetrators are local residents aged 17 to 23, recruited by the enemy through dating sites or while seeking ‘easy money’ on Telegram.

However, instead of intimate relationships and ‘quick money’, the arsonists are facing criminal charges and the prospect of imprisonment.

In Kropyvnytskyi, an FSB agent was detained ‘red-handed’ after setting fire to the district council building and a local branch of a state-owned bank.

The russian intelligence remotely recruited the man to cooperate in exchange for the promise of an intimate relationship with a fictional online acquaintance. As bait, russia used a fake account of a seemingly ‘ordinary girl’.

In Kyiv, four more arsonists were detained for attempting to destroy several service vehicles using flammable mixtures.

They worked in pairs and carried out tasks assigned by a number of russian handlers.

For instance, two brothers in Kyiv set fire to vehicles belonging to a mobile air defence unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and an employee of the State Emergency Service.

The other two perpetrators carried out the enemy tasks in the Desnianskyi district, where they set a military vehicle on fire at nighttime.

In Zaporizhzhia, a player on the local handball team has been notified of suspicion for setting fire to several Defence Forces’ pickup trucks on orders from russia’s federal security service.

The agent committed the crimes at a local auto repair shop where military off-road vehicles were being repaired after combat missions on the southern front.

Investigators of the Security Service have notified the detainees of suspicion of under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2, 114-1.1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the AFU during a special period, committed by a group by prior conspiracy);
  • 194.2 (intentional destruction or damage to property).

The suspects face up to 10 years in prison.

The operations were carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutors’ Offices.

The Security Service of Ukraine urges citizens: if you or someone you know is being approached for recruitment, or if you have any information about possible activities of russian intelligence services, please report it immediately to the SSU:
