In collaboration with the National Police and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service has exposed the head of a military research institute department soliciting a bribe.

The investigation revealed that the official had demanded money from a company supplying camouflage equipment.

He promised the contractors that he would not revoke the approval of the expert report on the quality of these products in return for 10,000 Euros.

This document was required for the suppliers to participate in the tender.

To conceal the crime, the perpetrator suggested that the company's representatives leave the full amount in a post office box in Chernihiv.

The SSU documented the official’s offences and apprehended him immediately after he received the illicit payment.

Cash and documentation confirming the scheme were seized from the suspect.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by a public official).

The suspect is in custody without bail. He faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Cherkasy region jointly with the National Police, under the procedural supervision of the Cherkasy Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office for the Central Region.
