SSU and National Police apprehend enemy agent plotting terrorist attacks near government buildings in downtown Kharkiv

The SSU Counterintelligence and the National Police thwarted new attempts by ruscists to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv. As a result of pre-emptive actions, an enemy agent preparing explosions in the city centre has been detained.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was to make improvised explosive devices and plant them near administrative buildings.

The russian intelligence operatives planned to remotely detonate the bombs during rush hour by calling the mobile phones attached to the bombs.

The SSU uncovered the occupiers’ plans at an early stage and caught the agent in a rented apartment while manufacturing the IEDs.

The aggressor’s orders were carried out by an 18-year-old drug addict whom russia recruited on a Telegram channel seeking ‘easy money’.

Following instructions from a russian handler, the asset purchased components for the bombs and started manufacturing them.

During the searches of the suspect’s temporary home, 2.5 litres of chemical liquid, electrical components for detonation, and a smartphone containing evidence of collaboration with the occupiers were seized.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Articles 14.1, 27.5, and 258.2 of the CCU (aiding and abetting the preparation of a terrorist act, committed by a group, by prior conspiracy).

The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
