SSU and National Police expose foreigner who was setting fires across Ukraine on russia's orders
The SSU and National Police have detained a citizen from an Eastern European country in Kyiv region, exposing him as an FSB agent who was carrying out a series of arsons on the enemy’s orders.
According to the investigation, the agent came to the attention of the occupiers when he was looking for 'quick money' after being discharged from the armed forces in his home country.
Following his recruitment, the FSB sent the foreigner to Ukraine, where he settled in a rented apartment in Bila Tserkva.
The suspect was tasked by the russian intelligence agency to locate and set fire to vehicles belonging to Ukrainian military personnel.
The suspect walked throughout the city, taking pictures of servicemen's vehicles in order to identify potential 'targets.
In this way, the agent tracked the car of an AFU officer, and then, under the cover of darkness, poured a flammable mixture onto its hood and set it on fire.
Then, the foreign national was given a new assignment to search for and recruit new agents.
The SSU detained the agent as he traveled to Odesa to carry out a new assignment for the enemy.
During the search, SSU officers seized the smartphone, which contained evidence of work for the enemy.
The detainee has been served with a notice of suspicion under two articles of the CCU:
- 114-1.1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period);
- 194.2 (intentional destruction or damage to property committed by means of arson).
The suspect is in custody facing up to 10 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region together with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Bila Tserkva District Prosecutor’s Office.
