SSU and National Police detain enemy agent who carried out July 5 terrorist attack in Odesa

The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have apprehended an agent of russian special services who carried out a terrorist attack in Odesa on the morning of 5 July.

The enemy’s accomplice is a 22-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia with a previous conviction, recruited through Telegram channels.

According to the investigation, following russia’s instructions the agent planted an improvised explosive device under a car designated by his handler.

To ensure online video coverage of the explosion, the asset installed a phone with remote access for the enemy opposite the planned site of the attack.

As a result of the explosion, a civilian man was injured: he suffered serious bodily injuries, and the vehicle under which the bomb was located was completely destroyed.

After the explosion, the agent tried to leave Odesa region, hoping to lay low.

However, the SSU and National Police tracked him down and detained him.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion of committing a crime under Article 258.2 of the CCU (terrorist act).

The enemy agent faces up to 12 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
