SSU and National Police dismantle four mobilization evasion schemes in Kyiv and Bukovyna regions
The Security Service and National Police have shut down another four schemes for evading mobilization and detained five organizers in several regions of Ukraine.
For sums of up to USD 20,000, they offered men liable for military service the opportunity to evade conscription by forging documents or helped evaders flee abroad outside of checkpoints.
In Kyiv region, the law enforcement uncovered a trauma doctor who sold fictitious disability certificates to men liable for military service. To falsify medical histories, he registered ‘clients’ for inpatient ‘treatment’.
Another perpetrator exposed in the region is the founder of a civil organization. He was detained for promising draft dodgers to remove them from the wanted lists of Territorial Recruitment Centers and then arrange deferral from conscription due to ‘employment at a critical infrastructure enterprise’.
One more suspect is a former bodyguard of one of Medvedchuk’s associates. He organized a ‘transfer’ of conscripts to the EU through the so-called ‘green border’.
The SSU detained the organizer ‘red-handed’ when he was receiving money from a ‘client’ for organizing his escape abroad.
In Bukovyna, the law enforcement exposed the rector of the one of the temples of moscow patriarchate’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who set up illegal transfer of draft evaders to a neighbouring EU state.
According to the investigation, the cleric independently looked for ‘clients’ among his acquaintances and enlisted the help of an entrepreneur he knew to transport them out of Ukraine.
The accomplice arranged the ‘transfer’ to the border and then showed the route’ along forest paths, bypassing checkpoints.
The detainees have been notified of suspicion, in accordance with the offences committed, under two Articles of the CCU:
- 332.3 (illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine);
- 369-2.2, 369.3 (abuse of influence).
The suspects face up to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operations were carried out by the SSU Offices in Kyiv and Kyiv region and in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of Prosecutor’s Offices.
