SSU recovers firearm used to kill Andriy Parubiy
Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine have gathered new irrefutable evidence against the suspect in the murder of member of Ukrainian parliament Andriy Parubiy.
The investigation established that it was this perpetrator who carried out the order of russian intelligence services to eliminate the MP. To commit the crime, the killer used a Makarov pistol, which the law enforcement officers have now found.
The firearm with a silencer was uncovered in a hiding place that the killer had set up after Parubiy’s murder.
The forensic examination established that this gun was used to fire the fatal shot at the people’s deputy. Traces of the assassin’s DNA were also found on the weapon.
Additionally, video footage was obtained during the investigation that shows the killer setting up the cache with the pistol in a forest area and reporting this to his handler in russia.
According to preliminary data, the weapon was to be used for other contract killings in Ukraine.
After Parubiy’s murder, the killer attempted to flee abroad but was detained by the SSU and the National Police in Khmelnytskyi region, from where he planned to illegally enter a neighbouring country.
At that stage, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 112 (attempt on the life of a Ukrainian member of parliament, committed in connection with his state activities);
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation also established that the suspect justified russia’s armed aggression and denied the war crimes committed by ruscists, in particular during the temporary occupation of Bucha.
Based on new evidence, SSU investigators have now notified him of suspicion under parts 1 and 3 of Article 436-2 of the CCU (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Lviv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
